We Are Locksmith In Norwich
We are the Locksmith in Norwich
We have all the latest tools and stay up to date with all the latest training to make sure we are the best locksmith in Norwich. I personally love to pick mortice locks getting my best success using the multi gauge pick designed by Chris Belcher, one of the prominent figures in the locksmith Norwich world, His wife as I understand was born in Norfolk so Chris apparently has a soft spot for locksmith in Norwich. My Favourite lock to pick is the ERA Fortress, some locksmith in Norwich fear this lock but once you understand the lock picking it becomes fairly simple. A locksmith in Kings Lynn told me the best way was to take a reading from the belly of the lever by turning your pick wire as if you were going to lock the mortice lock and that if it turns to a certain angle then its a high lift and anything else is a low lift. This seemed to work really well for him, however I wasn't getting so much success using this technique. Being an investigative locksmith in Norwich I decide to take the lock apart to study the lever pack. What I found after taking numerous locks apart was something that I thought would make it very easy to pick. Unfortunately this wasn't the case but I persevered and eventually developed a technique that works more than it doesn't. So now whenever I come across a lock that I struggle to pick I just go to my wholesale supplier and get them to send a load of that type of lock to this locksmith in Norwich, take them apart and study the lever packs to see if I can find something which will aid me in my attempts to pick future locks.
PT Lock & Safe The Locksmith In Norwich
As a Warrant Locksmith in Norwich it is very important that we are able to pick locks rather than drill them for lots of reasons. Mainly so it avoids any confrontation with an upset person who has had a meter fitted to their property without their consent but also because it is quicker ( usually ) and there is no confusion as to whether the locks security has been compromised. Other locksmith in Norwich either don't take the pride in their work or simply just don't care whether they are able to pick these locks or not. Well this locksmith in Norwich takes it personally if I can't pick the lock! Should a locksmith in Norwich be able to pick locks? Well this locksmith in Norwich thinks so. So if you ever get locked out and the locksmith in Norwich who turns up jumps out of his van with a drill in his hand, tell him to get back in his van and call for us, the best locksmith in Norwich. If You Need Lock Opened Call The Locksmith In Norwich Who Cares, We Are Here To Help

Training for Locksmith In Norwich
My Training to become a Locksmith in Norwich
So what qualifies me to be a locksmith in Norwich. In fact what qualifies anyone to be a locksmith in Norwich? There are no required qualifications to trade as a locksmith in Norwich or anywhere in the country to be precise. You can of course join organizations such as the Master Locksmith Association but even if you use a company that is registered as an MLA member this doesn't mean the locksmith that turns up to do the work is a Master Locksmith. In fact there only needs to be one member and the company can advertise as an MLA approved company. I even found a local locksmith in Norwich advertising he was a member of an organisation that I had never heard of, so after a bit of digging around I found out to become a member of this association you just clicked a few boxes on a web page and paid your money, there you are a member of an association. Obviously certain associations require more than this, the MLA has quite a stringent exam process which consists of four parts, a written exam(multiple choice), a lock fitting exam, a key making exam and a lock opening exam. They are probably the most recognised organisation you could join. You can actually take a course before you sit the exam which as I understand gives you all the information to pass the tests. So is this a realistic exam or just a money making scheme? What about the training to become a Locksmith in Norwich or elsewhere in the country. Well you can attend a one day course and the next day trade as a locksmith in Norwich or even just watch a few videos on You Tube and start trading as a locksmith in Norwich. You could attend a couple of days training , tick a few boxes and pay your money and your a fully trained and accredited locksmith in Norwich in fact you don't even need to have a CRB check. Would you want this type of locksmith working on your door or inside your property.
PT Lock & Safe Locksmith In Norwich
So back to the original question, what qualifies me to work as a locksmith in Norwich on or in your property. Well I trained under one of the most experienced locksmith in Bristol who was and still is a member of the MLA. Every company I have worked in has been regulated by the MLA or ALOA (Associated Locksmiths Of America) I worked out in America for just under 4 years to improve my combination lock opening skills. Currently I am not a member of any organisation, but after 24 years in the industry I'm better qualified than some of the guys out there. So when you have a lock to your home, office, safe or any other type of locking mechanism. Call the experienced Locksmith in Norwich.

Love Being A Locksmith In Norwich
I Love Being A Locksmith In Norwich
There Is nothing better than driving back from the Norfolk coastline after completing a wonderful safe opening, you feel on top of the world, alright it may only have been a Europa grade 2 but it is still a buzz being one of the few locksmiths in Norwich who can open these safes. The customer had lost their keys and were locked out of the safe.
A Few Locksmith in Norwich Open Safes
Any way I am now driving back to Norwich to open a PVCu door which will not open, the customer has the key but the handle will not move after they have unlocked it. I know the estate and know the locks the builder has fitted. It suffers from a common problem after the buildings have settled. When the building has settled the locking mechanism doesn't lign up with the frame and eventually this causes the rack and pinion inside the gearbox to break. I will end up having to change the gearbox for new. Once that is done realign the door in the frame, adjust the striker plates to make sure there is no pressure on the locking mechanism, as every good locksmith in Norwich would. Hopefully another satisfied customer in Norwich. Its fun being a Locksmith in Norwich.Fun to be a Locksmith in Norwich

The Tools Of A Locksmith In Norwich
We are one of the best locksmith in Norwich and part of what helps us to maintain our high standards is our investment in tools and training, even myself having 23years experience still practice picking locks when I am waiting for a customer. It is this dedication that enables us to call ourselves the number one Locksmith in Norwich for picking mortice locks. We get great satisfaction out of picking the locks that other locksmiths would drill open without even attempting to pick, such as the Union 3G110, Era Fortress and Union 2234 to name a few.The Number 1 Locksmith in Norwich for Picking Mortice Locks
We all use different types of picks, some home made, whilst I personally find the Chris Belcher Multi Guage Pick to be my favourite, I get bags of feel from the levers and the design enables me to move under the levers that are resting on the curtain as in the legge locks, Andy likes the RB Lock Tools pick and gets equally good results although I like to think I am faster than he is. We also use the Martin Newton Secure fast decoding pick and occasionally the Union 3G114 pick. The best Locksmith In Norwich will be familiar with these picks although some just jump straight in with the drill. If the locksmith in Norwich you use doesn't have these tools. Something Fishy For A Locksmith In Norwich
Something Fishy For A Locksmith In Norwich
One of our customers who is a letting agent has another reason to believe we are not only the best locksmith in Norwich but also the most caring. We were asked to attend site and meet the letting agents representative on site to pick open a mailbox. The reason for this was because the tenants had abandoned the apartment and left the keys in the letterbox. After a minute or so the letterbox had been picked open and the lock changed under instruction from the letting agent. She was truly amazed how quickly and efficiently we had changed the lock and for such a reasonable fee. The first reason she believes we are the best locksmith in Norwich. Now she had to go and check the apartment over to see what condition it was in, she didn't seem very keen to go in by herself. Apparently she had gone into a supposedly abandoned house and there had been squatters who had been very aggresive with her quite recently. We said it would be no problem for us to go to the door with her and make sure the apartment was empty before we left. She thought this was great and felt a lot more comfortable doing the inspection. Another reason to believe we are the number one locksmith in Norwich.PT Lock & Safe Number One Locksmith Norwich
The apartment had been abandoned and it was in a real mess, damp on the walls, food left rotting in the kitchen and generally in a really bad mess. When we checked in the bathroom I thought at first it was carpeted but it turned out to be hair all over the floor! We had noticed on the way in that the Yale cylinder on the door was loose and suggested that we fixed this while we were there. We didn't charge any extra, it was a problem that we could sort within the allotted time for the job. It is this type of service that has built our reputation as the number one locksmith in Norwich. Whilst fixing the lock the letting agent told us there were some goldfish that had been abandoned in the living room. We went and had a look. You could barely see the two fish in the bowl the water was so murky. We suggested we should take the goldfish rather than leave them there to die. The letting agent agreed, so as soon as we had finished the job we carefully drove across the city and as soon as we got to our office changed their water, gradually we have nursed them back to full health. The letting agent was impressed with the whole job and now has another reason to believe we are the best locksmith in Norwich.More Reasons To Believe We Are The Best Locksmith In Norwich

Story From A Locksmith In Norwich
Good Locksmith In Norwich
The other day I pulled up out side of a job, I had been asked to duplicate a safe key for a Secureline cash safe in a shop, I parked up and it happened to be behind one of my competitors van. I had never met him but had heard from some customers that he could be a bit grumpy. I had taken my colleague with me to avoid getting a parking ticket as were parked in a loading bay. He stayed with the van and I went off to get the safe key. Being a fully mobile key cutting locksmith in Norwich I would be duplicating the key from the back of my van. Whilst I was collecting the key the other locksmith came back to get some more tools, at first he didn't notice my lovely sign written van, but after he had collected his tools from his van he turned around and saw my van. I take it he felt I was cutting in on his patch because he did a double take and then took a step back to take in the entire van. It was then that he saw my colleague who was winding his window down to introduce himself, he never got chance as he stormed off looking grumpier than ever. The Other Locksmith In Norwich Looked Grumpier Than Ever
When I got back to the van my colleague was killing himself with laughter, when I asked him what was so funny he told me the entire story, I would only believe this story because I had heard of the other locksmith in Norwich reputation . I then proceeded to cut the safe key and returned it to the shop to check it worked properly in the safe. Upon my return to the van the other locksmith Norwich was just getting into his van so I thought it would only be polite to go and say hello. As I approached his van he saw me and quickly put his van in gear and wheel sped away. Nice to meet you I thought. This just goes to show not all locksmith Norwich are polite.PT Lock & Safe Polite Locksmith Norwich

Cracking Safe Opening In Norwich
A Safe Opening In Norwich
I was recently doing a safe opening in Norwich, for a well known supermarket. It wasn't your average run of the mill safe opening in Norwich. This was because the manager still had the safe key but the handle just kept turning round, without retracting the bolts and enabling the door to open. Not too big a problem I thought initially but after using my experience to work out the safe was actually a Rosengren grade 4 cash safe I realised this probably wouldn't be as easy to deal with as I thought. I had already worked out that the cam on the back of the handle had broken, now I needed to figure out how to retract the bolt work to get the safe door open. I started to bring in my drilling equipment ( I always use 110 volt equipment to comply with health and safety standards) and proceeded to drill into the safe. I had decided to come in through the side on the opening edge to push the bolt work back.Safe Opening In Norwich Isn't Always Easy
This proved to be harder than I thought, I encountered numerous hardened nuggets which tore my drill bits to pieces. Safe opening in Norwich isn't always easy! I persevered, putting plenty of blood, sweat and almost tears into this safe opening in Norwich. I had chosen to penetrate the side rather than the front of the safe to avoid the glass plate which protected the locking mechanism. After 4 hours of hard graft the safe was opened, repaired and the store manager was happy. Another good safe opening in Norwich.

Choosing the Right Safe: Approved Safe Scheme
So you decide to buy a safe to secure your valuables but how do you know which one to get? The Association of Insurance Surveyors have introduced their AiS Approved Safe Scheme. The aim is to make buying a safe simpler for everyone: the insurance underwriter, the safe supplier and the customer.
When a European standard for rating and testing cash safes was brought in some years ago it was hoped this would make choosing a safe easier. Safes would be tested against a performance standard and a resistance grade awarded, from 0 to VI. Policy holders would then be advised to install a safe of a certain grade. However problems arose when it was claimed that not all test houses were applying the same standards thus obtaining an advantage over competitors.
With the AiS Approved Safe scheme, manufacturers and suppliers are invited to submit their test certificates to the AiS Scrutiny Panel. If the safe passes they can claim to be AiS Approved and be included on list of approved safes.

Police Approved Locksmith?
There are a number of “locksmiths” and rogue traders, who like to claim that they are "Police approved". Unfortunately there is no such approval given by the police authorities. The police may offer some advice on the type of locks to use or criminal activity to look out for through Neighbourhood Watch schemes but they cannot officially "approve" any locksmith company. A locksmith who undertakes work directly for police authorities normally gain the contract through a tender process.
Currently there are no official Locksmith qualifications in the UK. This means that technically, a locksmith can never claim to be "qualified" but after talking to a locksmith and asking some probing questions about time in the trade and the best approach to the job you should be able to make an informed decision.
A good reputation is the best way to judge a Locksmith and you should always look for professional and courteous treatment, coupled with a proven track record. Our reputation is important and happy customers mean repeat work and plenty of referrals for which PT Lock & Safe is always grateful for!
