Cracking Safe Opening In Norwich

A Safe Opening In Norwich

I was recently doing a safe opening in Norwich, for a well known supermarket. It wasn't your average run of the mill safe opening in Norwich. This was because the manager still had the safe key but the handle just kept turning round, without retracting the bolts and enabling the door to open. Not too big a problem I thought initially but after using my experience to work out the safe was actually a Rosengren grade 4 cash safe I realised this probably wouldn't be as easy to deal with as I thought. I had already worked out that the cam on the back of the handle had broken, now I needed to figure out how to retract the bolt work to get the safe door open. I started to bring in my drilling equipment ( I always use 110 volt equipment to comply with health and safety standards) and proceeded to drill into the safe. I had decided to come in through the side on the opening edge to push the bolt work back.

Safe Opening In Norwich Isn't Always Easy

This proved to be harder than I thought, I encountered numerous hardened nuggets which tore my drill bits to pieces. Safe opening in Norwich isn't always easy! I persevered,
putting plenty of blood, sweat and almost tears into this safe opening in Norwich. I had chosen to penetrate the side rather than the front of the safe to avoid the glass plate which protected the locking mechanism. After 4 hours of hard graft the safe was opened, repaired and the store manager was happy. Another good safe opening in Norwich.

Choosing the Right Safe: Approved Safe Scheme

So you decide to buy a safe to secure your valuables but how do you know which one to get? The Association of Insurance Surveyors have introduced their AiS Approved Safe Scheme. The aim is to make buying a safe simpler for everyone: the insurance underwriter, the safe supplier and the customer.

When a European standard for rating and testing cash safes was brought in some years ago it was hoped this would make choosing a safe easier. Safes would be tested against a performance standard and a resistance grade awarded, from 0 to VI. Policy holders would then be advised to install a safe of a certain grade. However problems arose when it was claimed that not all test houses were applying the same standards thus obtaining an advantage over competitors.

With the AiS Approved Safe scheme, manufacturers and suppliers are invited to submit their test certificates to the AiS Scrutiny Panel. If the safe passes they can claim to be AiS Approved and be included on list of approved safes.

Police Approved Locksmith?

There are a number of “locksmiths” and rogue traders, who like to claim that they are "Police approved". Unfortunately there is no such approval given by the police authorities.  The police may offer some advice on the type of locks to use or criminal activity to look out for through Neighbourhood Watch schemes but they cannot officially "approve" any locksmith company.  A locksmith who undertakes work directly for police authorities normally gain the contract through a tender process.

One way to protect yourselves is to ask to see a locksmiths Criminal Records Bureau check. This document will prove that the individual in question does not have a criminal record. This does not guarantee their standard of work but provides some peace of mind.

Currently there are no official Locksmith qualifications in the UK. This means that technically, a locksmith can never claim to be "qualified" but after talking to a locksmith and asking some probing questions about time in the trade and the best approach to the job you should be able to make an informed decision.

A good reputation is the best way to judge a Locksmith and you should always look for professional and courteous treatment, coupled with a proven track record. Our reputation is important and happy customers mean repeat work and plenty of referrals for which PT Lock & Safe is always grateful for!
