Car Locksmith In Norwich

Car Locksmith In Norwich

A car locksmith in Norwich with over ten years experience and knowledge in dealing with vehicles. I originally moved out to the United States of America to improve my combination safe opening skills, which of course I did but I found I had a lot of interest in the American cars. The natural progression was to become involved with car locksmith work. I knew I woulod be returning to the United Kingdom at some stage and decided that I would become the best car locksmith in Norwich when I returned. I didn't realise at the beggining how very different it was from regular locksmith work. The learning curve was steep but luckily I had two good teachers to show me the ropes. Transponder keys were in there early days then, a transponder is teh communication via a chip in the car key that communicates with the engine control unit and activates or deactivates the immobiliser system on the car. So a lot of the work I started doing was regular car keys. The customer would have lost their car key and need a new key made, we relied heavily on our key impressioning skills to make a new key to the car, this involved blading of the key blank and then using a round or pippin file to file the cut into the key blank. We were probably the best car locksmiths at doing this. Even now I as a car locksmith in Norwich I still use this technique even though you can retrieve key codes from the dealer data base and cut a key on our fancy machine directly from the codes, but this doesn't always work, for instance if the car has had its locks changed the dealer codes will not work, this would stump many of the car locksmith in Norwich. But rest assured with my key blank, file and grips I will forge you a new key that operates in the lock.

Transponder Key Car Locksmith In Norwich

Since practising as a car locksmith in Norwich the prevolence of transponder keys in modern vehicles has grown so much that it is difficult to find a modern vehicle without a transponder chip inside the key. As the preffered car locksmith in Norwich for many used car dealerships we had to move with the times and purchase some kind of programming device. There are four choices which all have different pros anc cons. The first choice is what we call a cloning machine, relativeley cheap to purchase and very effective on a lot of the older cars but unable to program many of the more recent vehicles. Most car locksmith in Norwich have one of these due to the low cost but they are very limited as to the cars they can be used on. The second choice is a token machine. This is a plug in and pay type machine and can program a wide variety of vehicles. Fast and low skill levels required by the operator. The programmer is really cheap to buy but the manufactures claw there money back by selling tokens which are very expensive for each programming procedure. This cost will be passed on to the customer at some stage. The third choice is a programmer similar to the token style machine but you purchase the software for the different manufactures individually. Large initial upfront cost, but works out more cost effective in the long run. The fourth choice is laptop based diagnostic software, this is for the serious car locksmith in Norwich, a large initial outlay but a large range of vehicles can be programmed. At Norwich Auto Locksmith we have the cloning machine and the laptop based diagnostic programmer. So you see we are the car locksmith in Norwich to call, for great value duplicate car keys. If you need a car locksmith in Norwich call the experts.

Locksmith in Norwich and Lock Snapping

Locksmith in Norwich Links with National Lock Manufacture

If you have a UPVC door you must read this article.
If you have a UPVC door or a composite door, the type fitted to new build houses, you may be vulnerable to this type of attack. The cylinder is attacked (snapped) at a weak point and then the locking mechanism is exposed and easily defeated using a screw driver. The whole process can take as little as 20 seconds. Lock snapping two years ago was unheard of but in Bradford this technique is becoming more and more prevalent and in December of last year 27% of all burglaries across West Yorkshire involved Lock snapping. This technique is so simple, easy to learn and with this information being shared on YouTube it is leaving home owners with UPVC or composite doors exposed to having their properties burgled and possessions taken. So is there a solution to this increasing problem? A National lock manufacture and a Locksmith in Norwich think they have the solution.

In effect they had destroyed the meat of the door around the lock and then covered it up with the handles. If anybody kicked the door or pushed a bit too hard it would have broken very easily and swung open. This was not a good job by a Locksmith in Suffolk. I see this type of bad Locksmith in Suffolk work all the time. Of course the other problem with using a call centre Locksmith in Suffolk is the price. Well the Locksmith in Suffolk wants his money, the call centre obviously want their money, they have invested a lot of time and money into their advertising and lets face it they are not a charity. The Locksmith Norwich

Locksmith Norwich are often found driving from job to job, not all of the locksmith Norwich jobs are quick. Sometimes if a job is problematic or the locksmith Norwich does not have a direct replacement for the lock he needs to change, there may be a lot more work involved therefore taking longer to complete the job. Lets say on an average day the locksmith Norwich attends eight jobs, other parts of the country the locksmith Norwich would be able to attend a lot more jobs due to the population density, unfortunately there is often a lot of distance between jobs and lets face it Norfolk is a very rural area and depending on the time of year you are highly likely to get stuck behind a long stream of traffic being held up by a tractor or other agricultral machinery. It's important to remember in these circumstances that the farmer is trying to make a living as well as the locksmith Norwich so you have to show a bit of patience. Anway back to the Locksmith Norwich who is working on his eigth job of the day, it is a multi point locking system fitted to a UPVC door and the gearbox has broken. Normally the locksmith Norwich would take fifteen minutes replacing the gearbox and tidying up after himself but in this case as happened to me about a week ago it had a forty millimetere backset and had been discontinued. In this instance this locksmith Norwich installed an overnight lock which is a cut down version of the full lock which would stay on the door until the replacement lock turns up. Although the locksmith Norwich couldn't get a direct replacement the manufacture still produced a replacement unit which meant a slight adjustment to the door frame so locksmith Norwich can get the lock working with all of the auxillary locking parts which are not included in the overnight lock.

Locksmith Attleborough Fichet Bauche

Locksmith Attleborough PT Lock & Safe

Locksmith Attleborough cover lots of different areas of Locksmith Attleborough work. In this post we are going to cover changing the combination on a Fichet Bauche safe. We are probably the only Locksmith Attleborough that know how to do this. To start i will briefly explain the operation of this lock so you may better understand how it works. What other Locksmith Attleborough don't know is that there are two different types of this combination lock. One has four four clicks on the outer dial and twenty on the inner dial the other has seven on the outer dial and again twenty on the inner dial. Lets say we are using the numbers 1-7, 2-5, 3-7, 4-2. The first number refers to the outer dial the second number refers to the inner dial. Locksmith Attleborough need to dial the the outer dial fully to the left ie. to the starting digit 1, then after turning the inner dial full counter clockwise you need to count the clicks (now turning inner dial clockwise) on the inner dial until you reach the desired number. in this case 7. Move the outer dial on one position clockwise to position 2, then rotate inner dial fully counter clockwise and count 5 clicks turning inner dial clockwise. Continue following this sequence until all numbers have been input into the lock and the lock is opened. Most Locksmith Attleborough would have by now worked this out from following these simple instructions.

For a Locksmith Attleborough to change the combination is not that much more difficult

Locksmith Attleborough
For a Locksmith Attleborough to change the combination is not that much more difficult. First the Locksmith Attleborough must remove the plate on the inside of the safe door. Follw the above procedure for Locksmith Attleborough to open lock but before opening safe you will notice that there are little red dots ligned up on the back of the lock. Also in the centre of the lock there is a turn button, This my Locksmith Attleborough friends disengages the the gearing for the lock. Once this has been turned its just a simple case of Locksmith Attleborough dialing in your new numbers and turning the thumbturn back to the original positon to lock the numbers in place. Locksmith Attleborough always lock the safe in the open position then check the lock operates correctly using the new numbers. If you get stuck changing the numbers call a Locksmith Attleborough that knows what he is doing. At PT Lock & Safe (Locksmith Attleborough) we have been trained how to change combinations on Fichet Bauche safes we also know how to open and service these types of unit. Locksmith in Wymondham

Locksmith in Wymondham
Locksmith in Wymondham since 2004, a multi-million pound scheme has been under way to regenerate the entire town. In 2005, the Shopping Centre, originally built in the 1960s, was refurbished as part of the scheme. I will now give you some history on the locksmith in Wymondham. The locksmith in Wymondham were originally blacksmiths who worked in quite primitive ways to create fantastic pieces of engineering designed to keep people out of houses, coaches and trunks. It would have been very difficult to be a locksmith in Wymondham back in those days. Through the ages locksmith in Wymondham became a more specialzed career as the robbers became more inventive, a more secure form of lock was required. So the blacksmith or locksmith in Wymondham had to develop new types of locks, this was probably a more lucrative way to make a living rather than shodding a horse. Soon the blacksmith who specialized in lock making were to be referred to as locksmith in Wymondham.

Modern Day Locksmith in Wymondham

An earlry lock made by a locksmith in Wymondham would usually comprise of one lever and would be heavily warded to prevent the lock being picked. A burgular would beat this lock made by a locksmith in Wymondham by creating a key which would bypass this warding and lift the lever to open the lock. Often this key would be cut very thin (like a skeleton) and would be only good for one opening due to the thin metal left on the key. This is where the name skeleton key came from. The locksmith in Wymondham became wise to this technique and made the warding more and more intricate to defeat the burgulars. Later on the locksmith in Wymondham added more levers to the lock and introduced side warding which required the keys to have notches cut into the side. This is a technique still used by locksmith in Wymondham today. Modern day locksmith in Wymondham no longer have to make the locks and keys are often just duplicated on a key machine. There are still some highly skilled locksmith in Wymondham who can make their own locks and keys but the locks have become so complex and must be tested to British Standard to meet insurance criteria that this art is dying out for the locksmith in Wymondham. The main jobs for a locksmith in Wymondham these days is to open and change locks or their components to make sure they are locking/working correctly and to advise on the latest insurance standards. A good locksmith in Wymondham is PT Lock and Safe why not give them a call on 01603 812613.

Locksmith in Kings Lynn although Originally named Bishop’s Lynn, Kings lynn was part of the manor of the Bishop of Norwich in the 14th century Kings Lynn ranked as the third port of England. There bare two buildings that were warehouses that were in use between the 15th and 17th centuries. Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries in 1538, the town and manor became royal property. The names King’s Lynn and Lynn Regis reflect this change. The town became very prosperous from the 17th century through the export of corn; the fine Customs House was built in 1683 to the designs of local architect Henry Bell. The town went into decline after this period, and was only rescued by the relatively late arrival of railway services in 1847. After the second world war the cities poulation almost doudled because thousands of people were relocated from the capital.

PT Lock and Safe Locksmith in Kings Lynn

PT Lock and Safe Locksmith in Kings Lynn

PT Lock and Safe are pleased to announce that we have an approved locksmith in Kings Lynn. So we are now able to offer the same great locksmith in Kings Lynn service that we offer in the other areas. We have always offered this great locksmith in Kings Lynn service for safe opening in Kings Lynn and for other larger locksmith in Kings Lynn work but now we are able to offer the full range of locksmith in Kings Lynn work from simple lock changing to the slightly more complex lock opening service. So if you need a window lock fitted or a UPVC lock repaired or replaced you know you can count on PT Lock & Safe to provide you with a locksmith in Kings Lynn who will provide you with a quality job everytime. How are our engineers different from the rest you may ask, well apart from their superior locksmith in Kings Lynn training it quite often is the small things which make a big difference when your a locksmith in Kings Lynn. Such as alawys using a dust sheet when fitting locks. There is nothing worse than wood shavings stuck in the pile of your carpet. We also carry a Vacuum cleaner on each of our vans to pick up the bits the dust sheet doesn't catch. The door is checked for pencil marks which may have been put on the door during the fitting process, these are then cleaned off, so the door looks as it did when we turned up. Apart from the new lock of course. Another thing we do is remove all of the protective coating placed on the escutcheon covers and face plate of the lock, this doesn't take long to do but you would be surprised how often I work on a lock that was fitted years ago and the plastic cover is still on the lock. Unfortunately when you peel it off after years of being left on there it looks awful. The locksmith in Kings Lynn will then check the door to make sure it opens and closes without binding on the frame, Then the locksmith in Kings Lynn will check the hinge screws to make sure they are tight and not just spinning around. So as you can see we take our locksmith in Kings Lynn jobs very seriously.
Locksmith In Kings Lynn

We take our Locksmith in Kings Lynn jobs very seriously.

Now lets take a look at the free extras we offer when our locksmith in Kings Lynn works on a UPVC door. If it is a straght European cylinder change or a gear box change or even the full mechanism that needs fitting we still do more than other locksmith in Kings Lynn. The main reason why the locking mechanism breaks is because of poor door alignment. When the door falls out of alignment, usually due to settlement on new builds and wear and tear on hinges on older properties, the gearbox of the lock often ends up lifting the weight of the entire door or pulling the door into the frame so it can lock properly. The geabox has lots of small teeth inside which are not designed to operate with that amount of load on them so eventually the teeth break leaving you with a door that either doesn't lock or doesn't open. Other locksmith in Kings Lynn will replace the lock but not address the alignment issue, whether this due to not having the experience to solve the problem or is it because they know in it will go wrong again in the future and then they get the repeat work. You can be sure that our locksmith in Kings Lynn will deal with the alignment issue, clean the door of all finger marks, check and adjust the hinges and possibly heel and toe the door if required. We are locksmith in Kings Lynn who take pride in doing the job properly.

How Do Locksmith in Dereham Work

Locksmith in Dereham How Do They Work

Locksmith in Dereham What do they do? Well often a locksmith in Attleborough is called upon to open a lock on a front door. So how does a locksmith in Dereham open a lock when the keys are lost. Well depending on whether it is a mortice or cylinder lock and the experience and skill level of the locksmith in Dereham. If it is a cylinder lock the locksmith in Dereham may use a credit card type piece of platsic too slip the door open, often this is the preffered technique as it is quick easy and gets the customer into their house fast. Another method used by a locksmith in Dereham is a letterbox tool where a tool is inserted through the letter box and used to open the lock from the inside again fast and easy to do. Lock manufactures have realised this is a problem so over the years a dead locking facility or anti thrust latch has been added to prevent a locksmith in Dereham from slipping the lock, so what if the lock is deadlocked. Then our preffered method would be to pick the cylinder using either hand picks or an electric pick gun. This causes no damage to the lock in effect you are replicating the keys pattern to defeat the cylinder, of course lock manufactures have become wise to this locksmith in Dereham technique, so they developed anti pick devices which are now an integral part of most cylinders, also an extra pin has been added to make the cylinder six pin rather than the old standard of five. This has increased the security of cylinders greatly but a good locksmith in Dereham will overcome these measures.

A Lock Picking locksmith in Dereham

When a locksmith in Dereham comes across a mortice dead lock or a mortice sash lock it is a slightly different story, a simple two or three lever lock can be overcome with two bits of piano wire bent to form a tension wrench and the other to lift the levers into the right position (my preffered method). Other locksmith in Dereham use jiggler keys. Jiggler keys are a set of keys which fit loosley into the keyway and then you quite litterally jiggle them until the lock opens, often there are eighteen or more keys to the set and you may or may not get the lock open. As a proffessional locksmith in Dereham I have never used jiggler keys on a customers property, I consider them to be cheating but maybe I'm just old fashioned. The more levers inside a lock the more difficult for a locksmith in Dereham it becomes to defeat the lock. The current British standard requires there to be a minimum of five levers and other measures like a hardened drill plate, twenty mm bolt throw and a box striker plate to name a few. Well a five lever lock is difficult to pick unless you practice a lot. PT Lock & Safe, locksmith in Dereham put pride in their ability to pick this type of lock and boast very high success rates, there are of course some locks which are much harder to pick than others. Most locksmith in Dereham struggle to pick The ERA Fortress lock, personally I have practiced picking this lock a lot and get excellent results. A different set of tools are required you can no longer get away with using piano wire for applying tension to the bolt now a special tension tool is required, when I first started picking British standard locks back in the eightys I made my own curtain pick from piano wire and it was very crude but effective. I would regularly pick union and Legge five lever locks. Things moved on and better picks became easily available through wholoesalers which made the whole process of picking these locks a lot easier for this locksmith in Dereham.

Locksmith In Attleborough Picking Locks

Locksmith in Attleborough How Do They Work

Locksmith in Attleborough What do they do? Well often a locksmith in Attleborough is called upon to open a lock on a front door. So how does a locksmith in Attleborough open a lock when the keys are lost. Well depending on whether it is a mortice or cylinder lock and the experience and skill level of the locksmith in Attleborough. If it is a cylinder lock the locksmith in Attleborough may use a credit card type piece of platsic too slip the door open, often this is the preffered technique as it is quick easy and gets the customer into their house fast. Another method used by a locksmith in Attleborough is a letterbox tool where a tool is inserted through the letter box and used to open the lock from the inside again fast and easy to do. Lock manufactures have realised this is a problem so over the years a dead locking facility or anti thrust latch has been added to prevent a locksmith in Attleborough from slipping the lock, so what if the lock is deadlocked. Then our preffered method would be to pick the cylinder using either hand picks or an electric pick gun. This causes no damage to the lock in effect you are replicating the keys pattern to defeat the cylinder, of course lock manufactures have become wise to this locksmith in Attleborough technique, so they developed anti pick devices which are now an integral part of most cylinders, also an extra pin has been added to make the cylinder six pin rather than the old standard of five. This has increased the security of cylinders greatly but a good locksmith in Attleborough will overcome these measures.

A Lock Picking locksmith in Attleborough

When a locksmith in Attleborough comes across a mortice dead lock or a mortice sash lock it is a slightly different story, a simple two or three lever lock can be overcome with two bits of piano wire bent to form a tension wrench and the other to lift the levers into the right position (my preffered method). Other locksmith in Attleborough use jiggler keys. Jiggler keys are a set of keys which fit loosley into the keyway and then you quite litterally jiggle them until the lock opens, often there are eighteen or more keys to the set and you may or may not get the lock open. As a proffessional locksmith in Attleborough I have never used jiggler keys on a customers property, I consider them to be cheating but maybe I'm just old fashioned. The more levers inside a lock the more difficult for a locksmith in Attleborough it becomes to defeat the lock. The current British standard requires there to be a minimum of five levers and other measures like a hardened drill plate, twenty mm bolt throw and a box striker plate to name a few. Well a five lever lock is difficult to pick unless you practice a lot. PT Lock & Safe, locksmith in Attleborough put pride in their ability to pick this type of lock and boast very high success rates, there are of course some locks which are much harder to pick than others. Most locksmith in Attleborough struggle to pick The ERA Fortress lock, personally I have practiced picking this lock a lot and get excellent results. Things moved on and better picks became easily available through wholoesalers which made the whole process of picking these locks a lot easier for this locksmith in Attleborough.

Best Locksmith in Kings Lynn

Number One For Locksmith Kings Lynn

Historically, locksmith in Kings Lynn actually made the entire lock, working for hours hand cutting screws and doing much file-work. Today, the rise of cheap mass production means that this is no longer true, and, though a few expert locksmith in Kings Lynn are also engineers and capable of sophisticated repairs and renovation work, the vast majority of locks are repaired by swapping of parts or like-for-like replacement, or upgraded to modern mass-production items. Until more recently, safes and strongboxes were the exception to this, and to this day large vaults are custom designed and built at great cost, as the cost of this is lower than the very limited scope for mass production would allow, and the risk of a copy being obtained and defeated as practice is removed.

National's V Locksmith in Dereham

The affect of Nationals on The Locksmith in Dereham

Martin Pink of Rapid Locksmiths gets his teeth into the subject of the national locksmith chains. Are they a good thing or a bad thing for the industry? One thing’s for sure – he doesn’t sit on the fence!
This is a subject that affects each and every one of us, from new set ups to established locksmith in Dereham. It affects us in different ways, but nevertheless affects us all in one way or another.
With national internet sites setting up almost daily and the number of call centres increasing each year, every locksmith in Dereham share of call out work is being affected.
Most new set up Locksmith in Dereham end up on the books of one or more of the nationals. This is due mainly to their trainers sending them down this route. It is also a consequence of a lack of work generated from their advertising.
Many realise that this is not a good thing, but in the absence of any other work they justify this work as a necessary evil, without maybe looking at the bigger picture and how it may affect them long term.

What are the Alternatives to Locksmith in Dereham

Locksmith in Dereham

At present that three types of nationals exist,
[ 1 ] The call centres
[ 2 ] The internet sites
[ 3 ] The contract holders
The first two are much the same and not to be confused with the contract holders. In my opinion call centres and internet sites do more harm than good. The contract holders are mostly good for those in the trade. Let`s look at these in turn.
1 ] The call centres & 2 ] The internet sites
Over the years the majority of these have built up a bad name in the industry for both quality and service. Despite many of their claims, they operate largely on the emergency one–off market, rarely gaining repeat custom.
The general impression of the majority of these is that they are over–priced and offer a poor standard of service to the customer. Engineers are encouraged [off the record] to drill and change as often as possible so as to bump up the price and to earn more money for the company and for themselves.
These companies tend to offer payment to the locksmith in Dereham on a percentage basis, offering the locksmith in Dereham between 40% and 60% of each job`s value, which on the whole is very poor indeed.
The locksmith in Dereham is responsible for holding the stock and bearing the travelling and running costs relating to each job. He is also responsible for each job. He guarantees the product and workmanship and if required must go back at his own cost and put right defective products or workmanship. Therefore, is it right that the locksmith in Dereham bears the majority of costs involved in completing the job as well as the responsibility for any problems, yet receives the minority share of the payment?
Many of these call centres thrive on the new set up who they know is desperate for work. With an abundance of willing labour, they have experienced dramatic growth over the years. Some only pass work to their top earners, ie those that return the higher invoice values, encouraging their subbies to change locks and charge top rates for them. Otherwise they would barely cover their own costs.
The argument of ‘I need the work to build up my business’ is an old one. Long term it does the new set up as much harm as good and affects them in three main ways,
[1] If the locksmith in Dereham overcharges customers in order to try and make a living wage, he risks ruining his own local reputation before he even gets his business up and running. Remember, it’s only you the locksmith in Dereham that the customer sees overcharging and not the national they first called. It`s your face and your van they recognise and remember.
Of course you can choose non destructive entry and not over inflate prices but although admirable, this will inevitably result in you making little or no money and getting less and less work from them.
[2] The more jobs the nationals get covered, the more advertising they do. They grow each year thus knocking the independent locksmith in Dereham off of the 118 directory services and phone books with their multiple adverts. The more work you cover for them, the stronger they become in your area. In turn, any advertising you might do becomes less effective as the local advertising mediums become swamped by advertisements for the nationals. Without effective advertising it`s virtually impossible to build your business.
[3] Many independent locksmith in Dereham still see working for a national as viable and continue to work for them. But many of these nationals have an end game in mind: build up an area using a subbie and pay as little as possible to keep them in line.
They then swamp the area with ads, making it harder for the new set up to get a foot hold. Then, just as the new set up feels at least some security in earning their pittance, they sell the area as a franchise or put in a full time employee and the subbie loses the work anyway. When this happens the poor locksmith in Dereham is in a worse position than when they started because advertising will cost more to get noticed, their own local reputation will be tarnished and their long term prospects become severely dented.
So although tempting for the new locksmith in Dereham, these nationals are rarely a viable option because every job you take from them helps build their business at the cost of your own.
I could name names and even put up copies of invoices showing the unnecessary damage and extremely high prices some have charged. One example is of a failed upvc mechanism taking seven hours to open and secured with sash jammers. The final bill was in excess of £700. The customer was quoted the same amount again for repair and replacement.
I know of Upvc cylinders drilled and changed with bills up to £250. We will all have stories like this. Many locksmith in Dereham forums are filled with such tales and accompanied by photographic evidence.
On the few occasions customers have complained to trading standards or ‘Rogue Traders’ expose these firms, its always the locksmith in Dereham that`s named and shamed. The same answer is always given by the national, it`s not their fault but the fault of the locksmith in Dereham who has now been sacked and they advise seeking compensation from him. They always insist that their own standards are high and unless customers complain, it is hard for them to weed out the rogues. Yet the poor locksmith in Dereham was only doing as instructed in order to keep the work via high invoice values.
In my opinion, most of these nationals are no more than parasites, over charging the unsuspecting public with impunity. At the end of the day, you take the risk and they make the money. Every job you do strengthens their position and weakens your own. Despite what they say to the contrary, many nationals will franchise or put an employee into the area once it can sustain it. Then they`ll drop you, the independent locksmith in Dereham, and leave you in a worse position than when you started. In short, every job you do for these is another nail in your own businesses coffin.
This is by no means typical of every national, but in my own opinion and experience, it is typical of the vast majority.
This just leaves the 3rd type, the national contractors.
The main difference with these is that they don`t harm individual businesses. Instead they compliment what you already do. They pay proper rates and provide good quality work servicing large blue chip companies and major chains. They don`t advertise against you in your area and don`t swamp your area with advertising. They do, however, insist on experience and ability, unlike many of the nationals and they generally pay proper rates.

I believe that the majority of call centres and internet sites are no more than a rip–off. They rip–off customers and locksmith in Dereham alike and should be stopped. Sadly the only way to stop them is for locksmith in Dereham to stick together and refuse their work. If they cannot cover the work they will soon pull out of certain areas and stop advertising. Leaving genuine locksmith in Dereham to prosper.
